Vtg Antique? LOT of 7 Ghana Africa Ashanti Lost Wax Bronze or Brass Figurine MCM

$ 131.99

Availability: 100 in stock
  • All returns accepted: Returns Accepted
  • Country/Region of Manufacture: Ghana
  • Condition: Good vintage (possibly antique?) preowned condition with expected wear from age, use and storage including light surface scratching/scuffing, natural age patina (including verdigris and oxidation). I didn't find any breaks or cracks, but it is quite possible that there may be some in crevices, etc. - they are old! There are some irregularities that are inherent to the ancient lost wax casting process - as you would expect (and even WANT) to see in hand-made items.

    Description

    Estate purchase from the estate of an elderly couple who were extensive travelers - most of their items from Africa, various areas in the Middle East and South America.  I don't know the exact age of these (and wasn't familiar with 'Lost Wax Casting' until I purchased these and did a little research on them), but they are clearly older (possibly antique?).  I don’t know if the metal is bronze, brass or other - a magnet does not stick to the figures. They are somewhat primitive, but due to their simplistic/clean lines, they are perfect accents for today's Mid Century Modern decors.   Included:
    A family of 5 Antelope, Gazelle, Impala (not sure which?).  Long, skinny legs and lean bodies.  Corkscrew (or spiral?) antlers and doe-like ears and faces.  The two largest are 10.5" and 12" tall, the sitting one is 4.5" tall and the two littles are 5" and 5.5" tall.  Notice in the close-up photos of the detail on the backs of a couple of them - looks like natural swirls/texture in the hair/hide.
    One (1) Giraffe. 10.5" tall.  Very interesting textured/speckled detail on the body and neck.
    One (1) Crane or Heron - complete with a fish in his/her mouth.  Highly textured feathers (almost like scales on a dinosaur or alligator!).
    Stunning grouping.
    Please open all photos in full/enlarged size as they provide an accurate depiction and detail.  Last photo is for size/scale reference next to standard size bean can. I am happy to provide more photos or detail upon request.  Prior to packaging, this lot weighs 2 pounds, 10 ounces. Fed Ex or UPS may be best carrier option, so if possible, please check out with a physical delivery address instead of a PO Box.
    I will be listing another set from the same estate - humans instead of animals - as well as other relics from this estate.
