Vtg African Tribal Makonde Tree of Life Wood Carving Ebony Ujamaa Sculpture Art
This is a stunningly dramatic authentic African ebony wood carving in the form of a Tree of Life. This piece stands 18 inches in height and weighs approximately 10 lbs. I keep losing count, but I believe there are at least 16 smaller characters carved into the body of this piece, not including the main character.
This carving is in excellent original condition. There are no breaks to any of the limbs. The only real condition issue that I can find to mention is a crack to the wood that has emerged as a result of age along the front of the main character's forehead. I think it adds another element to the overall look and beauty of the piece as it resemble a prominent scar. This piece is over 50 years old. Also, I haven't fully cleaned this sculpture, I've only lightly dusted it. I think the dust in the crevices gives it a rich, dimensional look. It could, of course, be further cleaned or oiled for more of a solid black appearance. This hardwood is really beautiful. Please email me if you have any questions or need more pictures. Thanks
