    Description

    Outstanding Vintage African IGBO Hand Carved Wooden Slit Drum.
    I picked this and a few other items up at estate sale long ago and I must admit I know nothing about African drums.  I will describe what is obvious.  This drum is very old, so am I, 70-something. I'm pretty sure it has me beat...no pun intended.  It doe's show many years of use as you can see in the photos.  It is very solid and the cracking looks to have stabilized long ago.
    It doesn't have the stained and varnished look of the other Igbo slit drums I see on the internet. I guess it can be if you like that effect.
    What it does have is the look of being obviously aged, authentic and used in some tribal way who knows how long ago.
    If you are looking at my offering I expect that you know much more about this piece than I do.
